If the area around your well was flooded (including by sea or brackish water), ASSESS, FLUSH FLOODWATERS FROM THE WELL, REPAIR, DISINFECT, then FLUSH the well again (see steps below for more detail). The water should be tested to determine whether it is safe for drinking. If, after following these steps, the well water tastes salty or has a chemical or gas/oil taste or appearance or if you still have concerns, contact your local health department (see last page) (LHD) or a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) registered well driller (contact your local DEC Region office for registered well driller information).
